Snap Out of It

I don't know if it's the crazy gaps in the schedule, the lack of wins the Caps have earned this year, or the fact that the Caps play the Panthers four times in the next two weeks...but something is killing my hockey spirit.

It's why I'm not concerned about Ovechkin's contract. It's what makes me laugh half-heartedly at Jiri Tlusty's photographic ambitions. It's the reason that I don't particularly care that Joe Finley has mascot rage.

Sure, I could do a rant about why I agree with Steve Eminger that he is better off in the lineup than Schultz or Erskine, or why Sean Avery is a dirtbag whether or not he said the things he allegedly said. I could even talk about the ridiculous names that are showing up on the All-Star ballot (the fact that Martin Havlat and Dan Boyle have played a combined 5 games this year seems irrelevant for some reason).

And I will, at some point.

Until then, anyone have a cure for the early season doldrums? A win tomorrow night might be a start...

I know how you feel. Having such a screwed up schedule really sucks. Watch 2 games back to back, then sit around with your thumb up your backside for a week. You know it's bad when you watch Florida play Carolina with Joey B doing the play by play, or a rerun of the Detroit St Louis game just to get a fix. And I think that it could explain partly about the lack consistency for the Caps. And could also explain the weird standings results so far this season through out the league.

You know you're in the doldrums when you can only half-heartedly laugh at such folly. I bet the Thrashers will cure that for you next week.

Okay can someone explain what the deal is with Jiri Tlusty? I keep seeing his name pop up with regards to some photographs from last year but no one seems to want to say what was going on in them.

I know a little more about this than I wish I did, frankly, but here goes.

The silly little rookie took pictures of himself (yes, those kinds of pictures) and sent them to a girl on Facebook. She turned around and sent them to a Canadian gossip site - think Perez Hilton for our neighbors to the North - that of course posted them.

Since then I guess Jiri's legal reps have demanded they be taken down but not before a lot of people saw his...stuff.

Regarding the doldrums, sometimes you just have to sit back and try to appreciate the nice individual performances, even when the team's not doing so well.

Growing up near Vancouver as a Canucks fan, I remember one game in 1986 where Petri Skriko scored four goals against the New York Rangers, and Vancouver still lost 8-5. (That was the 1980's for you.)

It's so true - one of my great pleasures this season despite the horrific start has been watching Alex Ovechkin continue to evolve into a superstar, being the best player on both ends of the ice in almost every game. It's been a joy and some small comfort in these awful times ;)
